In 1982 Dr. Adams was awarded American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) Diplomate status. The purpose of ABVP is to promote high standards in the art and science of veterinary practice. To accomplish this, ABVP seeks to recognize veterinarians, qualified through examination, who deliver superior comprehensive veterinary care, demonstrating the practitioners’ dedication and commitment toward advanced studies over and above the attainment of a veterinary degree. To become board certified, a veterinarian must meet these requirements:
- Complete an approved residency program after receiving a DVM degree or complete 5 years of excellent clinical practice.
- Complete letters of reference and demonstrate participation in continuing education programs.
- Submit two articles suitable for publication.
- Pass an extensive 2-day examination.
ABVP is the only specialty board to require recertification by examination every 10 years. Dr. Adams was recertified in 1992 and 2002.
