Indulge your pet with a stroll around the neighborhood (for dogs) or some energic play with a cherished toy (for cats).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Set the Mood<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Play soft music, close the curtains, and let your pet relax in a favorite spot, such as a pet bed, couch, or pile of warm towels from the dryer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Massage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dogs: Begin at the top of the head and gently massage with your fingertips, making small circles as you go. Work your way down the neck and shoulders. Stay on the shoulders awhile, as this area bears a lot of weight.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cats: Pet your cat gently from head to tail, and vary this motion with circular massage on your cat\u2019s head and around the ears. Follow your cat&#8217;s cues and stop if he or she seems uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mani-Pedi Time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Trim the tips of the nails (being extra cautious not to cut the quick) using safe, pet-specific trimmers. If you have an elderly cat who has trouble grooming, gently clean your cat using baby wipes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Mane Event<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Carefully pat your pet dry with a towel just removed from the dryer. Gently\u2014and slowly\u2014brush the coat from head to tail, being mindful of tangles and sensitive areas. If your pet is accustomed to blow dryers, set it to the lowest heat setting, keep it several inches away, and don\u2019t linger in the same spot.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You Both Deserve a Treat!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now it\u2019s time for a well-deserved reward, such as a spoonful of peanut butter (for dogs) or some cream cheese (for cats).
