It\u2019s not just the food, drinks, noise, and weather, but the combination of all potential dangers can result in terrible consequences. On a night that\u2019s supposed to be celebratory and hopeful, keep pet safety measures in focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">If&#8230;Then<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s easy to take for granted a pet\u2019s disinterest in various stimuli. They could ignore something, like your coffee for example, for years until the one day they decide that they absolutely must taste what\u2019s inside your mug. The result is a potentially dangerous threat to their health and well-being.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, it\u2019s a good idea to assume that your pet will just get into risky stuff because&#8230;they can. Even if your assumptions turn out to be unfounded, at least you\u2019ve made steps to ensure that your pet is protected from their opportunistic or curious impulses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">It\u2019s Like Pet Proofing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember when you brought your pet home for the first time? You probably went a little bananas going around the house<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beverlyhillsvets.com\/blog\/pet-toxin-awareness-how-to-safely-store-household-hazards\/\"> removing possible hazards<\/a> like power cords, chemical cleaners, medicines, batteries, and so much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to thwarting holiday-related incidents, your approach should be similar. Take every possible risk at your pet\u2019s paws into consideration, then swiftly remove and store them to prepare for New Year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beverlyhillsvets.com\/blog\/153-2\/\">pet safety<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This includes toxic foods, like chocolate or Xylitol, alcoholic or caffeinated beverages, rich, fatty foods, and prescription, over-the-counter, and recreational drugs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Word About Noise<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsurprisingly, one of the worst parts about New Year\u2019s Eve (for pets) is the neighborhood noise and possible fireworks displays. The unpredictable clatter and chaos really <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beverlyhillsvets.com\/blog\/if-they-run-and-hide-you-might-have-a-scaredy-cat\/\">sets their teeth on edge<\/a>. Stay in front of this negative effect by creating a safe, quiet, and calming space for your pet. A back room away from it all is ideal. Low-lighting, white noise, and some rewards make the experience less freaky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxious or stressed pets respond with a fight or flight instinct. Be sure their ID tags are in good shape and update their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beverlyhillsvets.com\/blog\/microchipping-your-pet\/\">microchip\u2019s contact information<\/a> if needed. Check your home\u2019s screens, windows, and doors for security, and inspect fences and gates to reduce outside escape attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Going Somewhere?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re planning on leaving your pet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beverlyhillsvets.com\/blog\/lonely-or-just-alone-what-to-know-about-leaving-your-dog-home-alone\/\">home alone<\/a> on New Year\u2019s Eve, be certain that they\u2019ll be 100% safe and comfortable. If you cannot tend to their needs within 2-3 hours, enlist someone who can check on them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Together Forever<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many pet owners opt to stay at home with their pets on New Year\u2019s Eve, mostly because it\u2019s just so wonderful to be together.
