What is Lethargy vs. Normal Sleep in Dogs?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dogs naturally sleep, or at least lounge around, for a large portion of the day. Puppies need to sleep for about 20 hours a day to support their rapid growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adult dogs should get around 12-16 hours a day, with active breeds sleeping less than their less active counterparts. As they grow older, dogs start to sleep more<\/a>, often averaging around 16-20 hours a day, like puppies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That said, there is <\/em>a difference between regular rest and lethargy. A dog that\u2019s just getting her rest will wake up easily if you rattle the food bowl or open the door to head out for a play session. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
